Big Dog scholarships
Big Dog scholarships
Applications are now being accepted for the 12th annual Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph Scholarship.
This year, the scholarship has increased to $6,000 and will go to six graduating seniors in recognition of their participation in a BIIF cross country or track program. The committee will select recipients who will each receive a $1,000 college scholarship. Recipients can use the funds to offset the cost of tuition, books, or room and board expenses. The purpose of the scholarship is to financially assist qualified student athletes to pursue their goals of higher education and to ultimately make a positive contribution to our island community.
To be selected, student-athletes must demonstrate not only a willingness to make the sacrifices necessary to excel in his or her running activities, but also strive toward excellence in all aspects of school and community endeavors.
Wayne Joseph, who passed away in 2013 from brain cancer, was an avid runner and community volunteer. Joseph always said, “Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to see young people enjoying life through ports participation.”
Applications are available by contacting Randee Arkin Joseph at rarkin24@hotmail.com
